It’s practically impossible to open Facebook without being reminded that this Tuesday is Election Day. My newsfeed has been taken over by the many articles published as a last minute effort to sway the vote. I decided to make a conscious effort to pay as little attention to the election gossip as I possibly can. I challenge you to do the same by shifting your focus from Election Day to Veteran’s Day.

Give Thanks
This Friday, November 11^th, is Veteran’s Day. It is the one day set aside each year for us to honor those who have served, or currently serve, in the United States military. Our country would not be where it is today without the selfless choice they have made to protect our freedom. While exercising your right to vote on Tuesday, remember the sacrifice these Americans made to protect that right.

Don’t let this week pass by without thanking someone you know or a stranger you meet for their service in the United States military. Instead of sharing a negative article about either presidential candidate, share a positive article highlighting the story of a US Veteran. If you feel tempted to post a negative status commenting on the election, choose to post a status thanking a family member or friend who has served in the military. Encourage those you know to do the same!
