HOTWORX is a virtually instructed exercise program created for users to experience the many benefits of infrared heat absorption, while completing a 30-minute isometric workout or 15-min High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session. As the infrared heat penetrates your body causing you to sweat, the isometric postures further accelerate detoxification by physically removing the toxins from your organs through muscle contraction. The results our users achieve make HOTWORX one of the most efficient 30-minute workout programs in the fitness and beauty industry today!
3D TRAINING
- HEAT– When your core body temperature rises, there is an anabolic effect that speeds up your metabolism. Another heated workout advantage is that less time is required for warm ups in a heated studio.
- INFRARED– Infrared energy has the effect of strengthening and activating the regenerative processes in the human body. This is why workouts in an infrared energy environment can help to accelerate workout recovery.
- EXERCISE– Two forms of exercise work very well inside of the HOTWORX infrared sauna- Isometrics and HIIT. With isometrics, a variety of methods can be used, such as yoga and Pilates. With HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), a short 15-minute routine with a cycle or row will provide just the right amount of workout results when combined with heat and infrared energy.
Many of our Planet Beach members do HOTWORX for even more reasons than these. One reason that may not immediately come to mind is skin hydration. The heat of the sauna opens pores, which allows for deeper product penetration, and we have the perfect pairing: Body Contour Firming Oil & Enhance Anti-Cellulite Cream! These sister products work together to take your HOTWORX session to the next level in skin conditioning.
Planet Beach Body Contour Firming Oil tones, tightens, moisturizes, increases circulation, detoxifies, and fights signs of cellulite! This amazing and all-natural firming oil can relieve skin ailments, skin irritations (such as eczema and psoriasis), help hydrate dry itchy skin, and rebuild damaged and stressed skin tissue. Apply to the entire body, excluding the face, just before your next HOTWORX session.
Planet Beach Enhance Anti-Cellulite Cream is a niacin enriched cream that will stimulate circulation, cleanse the skin tissues, and aid in the removal of cellulite. This anti cellulite cream will leave the skin tight, toned, and tantalizing. Use this product in conjunction with your HOTWORX fitness routine, and you’ll get it right, and get it tight! Apply to skin after your firming oil in a circular motion, treating the problem areas of the hips, buttocks, thighs, upper arms, etc. Due to increased circulation the skin may become pink immediately following application, normal coloring will return shortly following use.
Ask your Planet Beach Spa Consultant about our Cellulite Reduction Herbs & our Buff or Scrub body exfoliators to add to the mix for even better results!
Find time for yourself no matter how busy things get at Planet Beach spray & spa where we continue to change the way the world rejuvenates!

Every successful company must ultimately decide how to recognize and reward their employees. Recognition has become a fundamental principle of effective management. Providing employee incentives and simply decorating an employee for a job well done is a solid way to boost productivity. At the end of the day, a person wants to feel that their work is valued and appreciated. At Planet Beach & HOTWORX Franchising Corporation, incentive trips have become a ceremonial way to celebrate top performance and build employee morale. The last company success cruise that sailed to the Bahamas was a hit and the next success cruise has already been secured and will set sail out of New Orleans in the summer of 2020. The company has extended these success trips to the Franchisees so that they can set goals for their staff and then provide the trip as an incentive. The result is a union of motivated people working together towards a common goal and celebrating their achievements.
In a workplace survey conducted by Gallup, employees were asked what types of recognition were the most memorable for them. The respondents emphasized the following six methods in particular:
- Public recognition or acknowledgment via an award or certificate
- Private recognition from a boss, peer or customer
- Receiving or obtaining a high level of achievement through evaluations or reviews
- Promotion or increase in scope of work or responsibility to show trust
- Monetary award such as a trip, prize or pay increase
- Personal satisfaction or pride in work
I wholeheartedly believe that incentives and recognition when deserved are the best ways to motivate and increase performance. In addition to the annual Success Cruise, Planet Beach & HOTWORX Franchising hosts an Awards Banquet in conjunction with their annual Convention. This year, the company will host a Hollywood Glam themed Awards Banquet at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. The Banquet allows us to recognize those Franchisees and operators who have demonstrated exemplary performance in a group setting. Every achievement, large or small, should be celebrated and we will do this in style as we glam up in Old Hollywood attire and watch our top performers take the stage.
In closing, if you are in a leadership role and have set goals for your team that are met with a vengeance, reflect on the journey and take the time to applaud those that deserve to be acknowledged for their contributions. The small gesture of gratitude will speak volumes to your employees and will ultimately lead to improved morale and loyalty. By rewarding and recognizing, your team will be eager to hit the next goal thrown their way. However, to be effective, recognition must be treated like gold and only dispersed when truly deserved.

Many things cause our skin to age. Some we can’t do much about, but others we can influence. One thing that we cannot change is the natural aging process. It plays a key role. With time, we all get visible lines on our face. It is natural for our face to lose some of its youthful fullness. We notice our skin becoming thinner and drier. Our genes largely control when these changes occur, but we can influence another type of aging that affects our skin. Our environment and lifestyle choices can cause our skin to age prematurely. By taking some preventive actions, we can slow the effects that this type of aging has on our skin.
Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet: Findings from a few studies suggest that eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables may help prevent damage that leads to premature skin aging. Findings from research studies also suggest that a diet containing lots of sugar or other refined carbohydrates can accelerate aging.
Drinking: Alcohol is rough on the skin. It dehydrates the skin and, in time, damages the skin. This can make us look older.
Smoking: If you smoke, stop. Smoking greatly speeds up how quickly skin ages. It causes wrinkles and a dull, sallow complexion.
Exercise: Moderate exercise can improve circulation and boost the immune system. This, in turn, may give the skin a more-youthful appearance.
Facial Expressions: You can prevent facial aging by avoiding repetitive facial expressions. When you make a facial expression, you contract the underlying muscles. If you repeatedly contract the same muscles for many years, these lines become permanent.
Sun exposure: One way to reduce premature skin aging is to protect your face from the sun every day. Whether spending a day at the beach or running errands, sun protection is essential.
Skincare: Using a professional-grade skincare regime is highly important in both preventing and diminishing the signs of aging. Cleansing your skin gently is an important part of the mix. Scrubbing your skin can irritate it which accelerates skin aging. Gentle washing helps to remove pollution, make up, and other substances without irritation. Also, be sure to wash your face twice a day and after sweating heavily. Perspiration irritates the skin, so you want to wash your skin as soon as possible after that work out. Another important step is applying a facial moisturizer every day. Moisturizer traps water in our skin, giving it a more youthful appearance, and many facial moisturizers provide that sun protection as well.
At Planet Beach, we offer an array of amazing skincare products including pH balanced cleansers, all-natural anti-aging moisturizers and more! Which brings me to today’s most important anti-wrinkle recommendation, Planet Beach Firm, or as we like to call it, “Botox in a jar!” Firm instantly tightens sagging and aging skin with the active ingredient of GABA, a natural muscle relaxer, so even if you’ve been making those facial expressions for years, we’ve got you covered! This fabulous product dramatically diminishes fine lines and wrinkles within minutes of application and is proven to reduce wrinkles up to 45% in just 60 days when used regularly.
It’s never too late to benefit from these tips! Even people who already have signs of premature skin aging can benefit from making lifestyle & skincare changes. By protecting your skin from the sun, you give it a chance to repair some of the damage. Smokers who stop often notice that their skin looks healthier. And beginning a skin care regime focused on obtaining a more youthful appearance is right around the corner at your local Planet Beach spray and spa. While you’re there picking up that “Botox in a jar,” be sure to try out one of our in-spa anti-aging service and product pairings! Looking and feeling your very best is just one Planet Beach visit away!

Identifying your company’s target market is essential for developing effective marketing strategies that will resonate with the target consumer and ultimately drive them into your business. A target market is a set of consumers sharing similar interests or characteristics that your company hopes to serve. The target demographic for HOTWORX & Planet Beach Franchising has been identified as an employed 30-year old female, inherently nicknamed, Eileen.
HOTWORX & Planet Beach are both lifestyle brands, encompassing beauty, wellness and fitness and we strive to attract those that are aspiring to live a healthy lifestyle. Eileen represents the specific target audience that will be attracted to and ultimately commit to a lifestyle brand. Therefore, every marketing message is centered around the desires of Eileen, which was inspired by Jeff Bezos’ philosophy of always leaving an open seat at the executive round table for the customer, “the most important person in the room.” Eileen is and will always remain at the forefront of every marketing decision made within the company.
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the “Eileen Show” during the upcoming annual HOTWORX & Planet Beach Convention this July in Las Vegas. The Eileen Show will feature a panel of 3 female HOTWORX members and 1 Planet Beach female member and will be moderated by marketing executives, Kasie Banks and Niki Cofini. During the interview style panel, we will step into the world of Eileen to learn her passion, interests and goals. Truly understanding our target market and what makes them tick will allow us to tailor our marketing messages to attract more Eileens and keep them for life!
We welcome the following ladies to this year’s “Eileen Show”…
Britni Hammond
HOTWORX Member- Frisco, TX
Britni lives in Frisco, Texas. She is originally from Iowa, and has lived in Texas for 4 years. She is a construction controller. When she is not working, she is working out, going on a traveling adventure, or hanging out with friends. One of her goals is to run a half marathon in all 50 states, and she just completed state #27.
Kimberly Stone
Planet Beach Member- Stockton, CA
Born second out of four children, Kimberly’s amazing parents provided a humble life and instilled life skills and core-values in her. She grew up in the Central Valley in a small town called Tracy, California. Straight out of high school she pursued a career in food and beverage as well as in hospitality. She attended a local Jr. College in Stockton, California where she met incredible instructors and mentors throughout the culinary arts program.
With dedication, hard work and long hours, she worked her way up in multiple stages. Currently and for the past 2 years, she has become the restaurant manager of one of the finest restaurants in the Central Valley. The education and experience that she has gained from her roles and sacrifices has come with its challenges but she wouldn’t be who she is today without the struggles.
Her dream is to always be passionate about her work and to help those around her flourish. These past 10 years has introduced her to so many amazing people and opportunities that at this point she knows she can be anything that she wants to be – all it takes is passion and commitment!
Katlyn Samifua
HOTWORX Member- Wellington, FL
Katlyn is a graduate from the University of Florida and is an avid reader and sports enthusiast. As a certified personal trainer and an 8-year vegan/vegetarian, Katlyn is always looking for exciting and challenging ways to push herself to her physical limits. Katlyn has been an avid yoga student since 2008 so she naturally loved the concept of HOTWORX when she chanced upon her local studio. Katlyn enjoys working out in the heat and loves the combination of FAR Infrared and Isometric holds, resulting in longer leaner muscles and a noticeable energy boost!
Julia Tatum
HOTWORX Member- Oxford, MS
Julia comes from a family who’s been a part of the Oxford community for generations. She loves her small town and loves when new businesses pop up especially gyms. She loves to stay active, and try out all different types of workouts and sessions offered. She joined HOTWORX when they first opened in the Oxford area, and fell in love. She likes to sweat, to know she’s putting in the effort.
She runs a small business, grinding grits and corn meal on an old grist mill, so sometimes after doing manual labor all day making herself get to the gym is hard. The thing she loves about HOTWORX is that even if she’s physically unable to put in 100% that day, she still feels like she’s accomplished something after her session because of the infrared heat.
She received her BFA with an emphasis in Graphic Design so she applied her education to her new packaging and advertising, social media, and all marketing strategies. She does everything herself from invoicing, filling orders, shipping out, communicating with customers and reaching out to new ones, book keeping, etc. Sometimes it gets hard, but she can always rely on a good HOTWORX session to relax her body and mind either when she starts her day or ends it.
“Some days I’m looking for something more relaxing, somedays I use it to start my day and get sweating before going on a run. Sometimes I use the HOTWORX sauna as a cool down, other days I use it as an all-out workout by taking a Cycling or Blast session along with a Pilates or ISO session. If I’m feeling extra energized, I’ll tackle the free weights.”

Are you an effective leader? Many times as the Spa Director and Franchisee of my Planet Beach spray & spa, I found myself wondering, am I being a leader, not just a boss? Being a good manager is one thing, but in order to become and stay a top performing location within the company, I needed to be able to delegate and rely on my team without dealing with high staff turnover and disgruntled employees. I had to learn how to be an effective leader, not just a good manager. True leaders nurture the strengths and talents of their people and build teams committed to achieving common goals. The most effective leaders have the following traits in common.
Share Their Vision
A leader with vision has a clear idea of where they want to go, how to get there and what success looks like. Be sure to articulate your vision clearly and passionately, ensuring your team understands how their individual efforts contribute to higher level goals. Personally working toward your vision with persistence, tenacity, and enthusiasm will inspire and encourage others to do the same.
Lead by Example
As a leader, the best way to build credibility and gain the respect of others is to set the right examples. Demonstrate the behavior that you want people to follow. If you demand a lot of your team, you should also be willing to set high standards for yourself. Aligning your words and actions will help to build trust and make your team more willing to follow your example.
Demonstrate Integrity
A leader with integrity draws on their values to guide their decisions, behavior, and dealings with others. They have clear convictions about what is right and wrong and are respected for being genuine, principled, ethical and consistent. They have a strong sense of character, keep their promises, and communicate openly, honestly and directly with others. Displaying integrity through your daily actions will result in loyalty, confidence, and respect from your employees.
Communicate Effectively
The ability to communicate clearly, concisely and tactfully is a crucial leadership skill. Communication involves more than just listening attentively to others and responding appropriately. It also includes sharing valuable information, asking intelligent questions, soliciting input and new ideas, clarifying misunderstandings, and being clear about what you want. The best leaders also communicate to inspire and energize their staff.
Make Hard Decisions
To be an effective leader, the ability to make fast, difficult decisions with limited information is critical. When facing a tough decision, start by determining what you are trying to achieve. Consider the likely consequences of your decision and any available alternatives. Make your final decision with conviction, take responsibility for it and follow it through. Being a confident decision-maker will allow you to capitalize on opportunities and earn the respect of your team.
Recognize Success
Frequently and consistently recognizing achievement is one of the most powerful habits of inspiring leaders. For people to stretch themselves and contribute their best efforts, they need to know their work will be valued and appreciated. Find ways to celebrate the achievements of your people, even if it’s through a simple ‘well done.’ As well as boosting morale, it will also strengthen their motivation to continue giving their best.
Empower Others
Great leaders understand that for people to give their best, they must have a sense of ownership over their work and believe that what they’re doing is meaningful. Communicate clear goals and deadlines to your team, and then give them the authority to decide how the work gets done. Challenge them with high expectations and encourage them to be creative and show innovation.
Motivate and Inspire
The best leaders drive their team forward with passion, enthusiasm, inspiration and motivation. Invest time in the people you lead to determine their strengths, needs, and priorities. As well as making them feel valuable, this will help you to understand the best way to motivate them. Continually reinforce how their efforts are making a difference and encourage the development of their potential with meaningful goals and challenges.
As well as providing direction, inspiration, and guidance, good leaders exhibit courage, passion, confidence, commitment, and ambition. Striving to possess these traits in all aspects of your life will translate into long-term success. So, get out there and be a true leader!

There is always a sense of renewal and rejuvenation obtained from visiting a tropical destination. The combination of the salty air, the crashing waves and the warm weather elicits a feeling of relaxation and euphoria. I had the privilege of participating in a company success cruise last week, which sailed to Nassau in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. During my visit, I learned that the life expectancy on these islands averaged 80 years compared to the United States average of 79.38. When conducting additional research, I found that science supports that visiting the ocean is good for your physical and emotional health.
The term “blue mind” coined by marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols describes the mildly meditative state we fall into when near, in, on or under water. “It’s the antidote to what we refer to as “red mind,” which is the anxious, over-connected and over-stimulated state that defines the new normal of modern life. Research has proven that spending time near the water is essential to achieving elevated and sustained happiness.” Additionally, there are proven studies that suggest breathing ocean air heals specific types of ailments, including certain lung diseases. In an article published by the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Ferkol mentions that a study taking place in Australia tracked the effects of the ocean air on surfers suffering from cystic fibrosis. The study lasted 48 weeks and produced evidence that the salt air helped to clear the lungs of the patients. Furthermore, exposure to sunlight helps to stimulate the body’s production of Vitamin D, releases serotonin and can boost the immune system through the increased production of white blood cells. With such profound studies proving that contact with the ocean decreases stress, builds your immune system and improves air quality, it comes as no surprise that a tropical vacation is always at the top of the vacation wish list.
If you are preparing for an upcoming tropical vacation this summer, visit your local Planet Beach spray & spa to look and feel your absolute best before slipping into your swimsuit and digging your toes in the sand. The last Monday of May is Memorial Day. The day when all US people honor those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Gradually, the holiday also turned into the celebration of early summer. So, for businesses, this is another opportunity to draw clients’ attention. But due to the solemnity of the occasion, an appropriate marketing strategy is essential for successful promotions and benefits.
Giveaways. Memorial Day is a reverent Holiday. Military personnel and veterans are given presents and honors. These can be free drinks or meals, or some souvenirs. Depending on the product and service, the idea can be brilliantly realized. It wouldn’t be inappropriate to add promotions to the gifts. For example, “All military personnel and veterans receive a free spa service at Planet Beach during the month of May in honor of Memorial Day” and with it is a discount card for the next purchase. Or, ask the customers to post a photo with the gift or check-in on social media!
Social Media. Using #memorialday hashtag on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram might seem like a good idea. It’s a low-cost way to spread promos, invitations, and updates of approaching events. However, one must be very careful using it. People may be looking for information about the actual holiday, and some promos could appear inappropriate or offensive. Instead create your own hashtag for your business’s Memorial Day event or promotion. #MemorialDayAtPlanetBeach or #MemorialDayGiveaway
Decorations. On Memorial Day, naturally the decoration theme is defined by the patriotic colors of red, white and blue. But the approach can be creative. Besides flags and balloons, a business might change its logo for the holiday to match the theme. Company staff should also wear appropriate attire!
Outdoor Activities. One of the traditions of the holiday is outdoor activities. It’s a time for picnics and barbecues. And this is an exclusive occasion to spread business promos. Businesses support a celebration, and the logo is everywhere, from team uniform to napkins. Companies cooperate for food-truck festivals, which are very popular. The festival can include contests. Darts, corn hole, and balloon-blowing games are only a few ideas. A product sample or loyalty card are subtle advertising prizes.
Memorial Day weekend is saturated with summer’s beginning. Outdoor fun is the mainstay of the holiday. It happens to be pricey, so cooperating with other companies for the holiday weekend is a win-win strategy. This shouldn’t be underestimated while contemplating your marketing program.
Check out your local Planet Beach spray & spa to see what they’re offering this weekend leading up to Memorial Day! We are wishing everyone a safe holiday & thank all who have served our country!

Preparations are under way for this year’s ACTION themed HOTWORX & Planet Beach Convention which will be held at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, July 22-24. This year, we welcome guest speaker, Corrin Stellakis, as she shares her personal journey as the Miss Earth USA 2016 title holder and her overall passion for beauty, fitness and self-development.
Corrin Stellakis has made her mark in the pageant world as a three-time state, two-time national, and two-time international title holder. In 2016, Stellakis competed in the Miss New York Earth USA pageant. After taking home the title, she prepared for the national crown. Corrin competed representing the state of NY at the 2016 Miss Earth USA pageant in Washington D.C. On coronation night, she was crowned Miss Earth USA 2016 and was given her very own HOTWORX sauna which she later installed in her training studio. Since 2016, Corrin has been integrating the HOTWORX workouts into her exercise program and is loving the results.
In 2017 Corrin made a lifelong dream come true when she opened her own business, “Fit to Reign.” Fit to Reign was created to empower women! Corrin wants every woman to view themselves in a positive light and work their very hardest at becoming the best version of themselves mentally, intellectually, socially, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. As a self-development coaching service, Fit to Reign offers personal training, interview and public speaking preparation, wardrobe and image consultations, modeling technique/instruction, and of course pageant coaching! Stellakis is dedicated to helping women of all different ages, shapes, and sizes to become Fit to Reign.
In addition to her career as a self-development coach, Corrin is a Wonder Woman impersonator and volunteers her time at children’s hospitals, and Ronald McDonald houses throughout the state of NY and serves as the face of the skincare line, Naturmetic. Corrin has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Psychology with a minor in Christian Counseling from Liberty University.
We are extremely honored to have Corrin speak at the upcoming HOTWORX & Planet Beach Convention. She sent this message as a prelude to her scheduled appearance in Las Vegas this July:
“Hi everyone! My name is Corrin Stellakis and I will be speaking at upcoming HOTWORX convention. I have had the opportunity to use the HOTWORX virtually instructed exercise programs for the past three years and I absolutely love them! As a personal trainer, pageant coach, and competitor, it is very important that I always look and feel my best. When deciding to commit to a brand, I look for the brand’s reputation, the results they offer, the cost, and convenience of the brand. HOTWORX has a great reputation and it comes highly recommended from fitness professionals, and valued friends. The results that I have experienced through HOTWORX are amazing and I have witnessed plenty of other HOTWORX success stories. Participating in the virtually instructed infrared exercise programs helps me to flush out the toxins in my body, burn calories, and build muscle. HOTWORX is cost effective and it is convenient because there are locations across the country, and the franchise continues to grow.”

I have always been in the sales world making majority of my earnings on commissions and incentives. I don’t know any other way. So, naturally it comes easy to me to provide incentives for my team within my Planet Beach Spray & Spa. For someone who’s unfamiliar with this compensation concept though, it may not seem very simple. Choosing the right sales incentives to motivate a team can be challenging. On the one hand, they need to be exciting enough to motivate employees to change their behavior, or at least point it in a certain direction. On the other hand, they also need to fit within an organization’s budget and not cost so much that they cancel out the benefit of holding a contest in the first place. Incentives can come in a number of different flavors, all of which can be effective.
1. Job Related Incentives
This should be the least expensive form of incentive, since it can consist of items like additional vacation time which have no out-of-pocket cost. There is still a “cost” to having people out of the office, but this type of reward can go a long way in terms of employee satisfaction. Other choices in this category include tangible sales incentives like a new cell phone, iPad or upgraded laptop. The item should be something exciting enough to get a person motivated but at the same time also have the potential to positively impact the person’s productivity. This type of incentive can be a double-win. The employee wins by getting a neat toy that helps them to work more productively to drive more results. The company wins because the prize not only motivates the employee to work harder to earn it but also because it will ultimately make them more effective, generating increased sales.
2. Tangible Incentives
Tangible sales incentives can be extremely effective motivators. The secret is to choose a prize that the members of the team want and likely wouldn’t buy on their own. To understand what prize your staff may desire, consider the profiles of your employees. Finding a sales incentive that the members of your team generally do not have is important. For example, giving away a 42-inch flat screen television today is not as likely to excite people, since they probably already have one. Spending the same money on a high-end watch, pair of heels, bag, or other aspirational item could very well be the ticket.
3. Experiential Incentives
Experiences impact happiness more than purchases. Who wouldn’t be excited about a few days in Vegas or a week in a tropical paradise? There’s a reason that travel and experiences are such popular sales incentives: They work. And there’s a way you can squeeze even more performance out of an experiential incentive. Instead of sending one employee on a cruise for a week, create a sales contest with a team experience — such as a team dinner, outing to a fun event, or even better … send them all on a cruise! Not only do these types of incentives reward high performers, but they also help them to bond with each other, increasing the likelihood that they will stick with you for the long run.
At Planet Beach & HOTWORX we foster an environment of increased productivity through incentive-based goals. This work hard, play hard mantra has been adopted by the franchisees of this multi-brand organization. There are trips organized for the franchisees and their top performers each year. They are encouraged to opt in by setting goals for their team that are both aggressive and attainable. During our last Convention, we promoted a “Get on the Ship” incentive program where participants were invited to opt in, determine their goals and then set sail on the Carnival Sensation! This ship will set sail out of Miami, Florida on Saturday, May 25th and will return on Thursday, May 30th. This 5-day cruise will visit the ports of Nassau in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay & Grand Turk. It is almost time for our trip, and everyone is more motivated than ever!
By having a clear understanding of your team, their desires, and their needs both inside and outside of work, choose one of these 3 types of incentives, and you’ll be amazed by their increased enthusiasm and performance!

“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” Tony Robbins
This year’s ACTION themed annual Planet Beach & HOTWORX Convention is slated to take place July 22-24 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The theme ACTION was chosen as a follow up to last year’s theme, VISION. In business, defining your vision creates a sense of purpose and direction for the future. Vision is your why. Vision gives something direction, but you will never reach your destination without action. The vision only becomes reality with hard work, tenacity and implementation. To execute and move things forward, it takes true grit and determination. This year we welcome guest speaker, Lt. General Honoré, as he shares his no-nonsense approach to getting the job done.
Lt. General Russel L. Honoré helps organizations develop a culture of preparedness and problem solving with strategies for transforming individuals into take-charge leaders. As the commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, he became known as the “Category 5 General” for his striking leadership style in coordinating military relief efforts in post-hurricane New Orleans. A decorated 37-year army veteran and global authority on leadership, Gen. Honoré is the go-to expert on CNN, Fox, MSNBC and CBS on emergency and disaster preparedness and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria crisis management. Drawing on his in-the-trenches experience managing conflicts of both the natural and man-made variety, his disciplined leadership takeaways inspire audiences in a range of fields, including business, management, government, military and education. His third book, Don’t Get Stuck on Stupid!, challenges society in the age of the new normal—a business environment where change and unpredictability are constants, and individual resilience is mandatory.
Lieutenant General Honoré is a native of Lakeland, Louisiana. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Agriculture upon graduation from Southern University and A&M College in 1971. He holds a Master of Arts in Human Resources from Troy State University as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Southern University and A&M College, an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from Stillman College, and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Stillman College.
Prior to his command of Joint Task Force-Katrina – leading the Department of Defense response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana – General Honoré served in a variety of command and staff positions which focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. As Vice Director for Operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C., and, as the Commander, Standing Joint Force Headquarters-Homeland Security, United States Northern Command, General Honoré’s focus was Defense Support to Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. For four of the past six hurricane seasons, he supported the Department of Defense planning and response for Hurricanes Floyd in 1999; Lilli and Isidore in 2002 (both hit the Gulf Coast); Isabel in 2003; and Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne in 2004.
General Honoré also planned and supported the United States military response to the devastating flooding which swept Venezuela 1999 and Mozambique in 2000. As Vice Director for Operations, he led the Defense Department’s planning and preparation for the anticipated Y2K Millennium anomaly. As Commander and under NORTHCOM direction, he planned and oversaw the military response to the Space Shuttle Columbia Tragedy and the DC Sniper Shootings. Additionally, General Honoré participated in three TOPOFF (Top Officials) exercises as well as the United Endeavor series of Homeland Defense exercises.
General Honoré retired on February 29, 2008, following 37 years of active service with the United States Army. He continues to speak and consult nationally on Building a Culture of Preparedness and we are so honored to have him share his wealth of knowledge and experience with our Franchisees during the upcoming annual Convention.
In closing, I’ll leave you with one of General’s quotes, “Leadership means forming a team and working toward common objectives that are tied to time, metrics and resources.”

In health and wellness circles, essential oils have been around for decades. Almost all of us know someone in our neighborhood that tries to sell super-overpriced essential oils on their social-media profile, and it seems like essential oils are added to almost everything these days.
With how much it seems like essential oils are part of the main-stream consciousness, there is still a lot of misunderstandings and misinformation about essential oils, and let’s clear up some of that right now! After this, you’ll even be able to teach your essential-oil-selling-neighbor something they are getting wrong (if they’ll listen to you)!
- Most essential oils are sold diluted. Even oils that say they are “100% essential oils” could be diluted since a diluting oil called fractionated coconut oil is often added. If you want the most potent and effective stuff, make sure what you are buying doesn’t have a diluting oil added (unless it is sold that way for a specific purpose.
- Where oils are sourced matters. Oils are a lot like fine wine. The year and location of where the organic materials were grown makes a difference on how potent and effective they are. Make sure you buy your oils from a source that will provide you with the sourcing details if asked.
- How oils are distilled matters. Just like oils you cook with, there are lots of methods to extracting and distilling the oils from the raw plants. Some processes use chemicals, are cheap, and hurt the end product. Other processes are purer, maintain the integrity of the oil, but can be more expensive. If you want the best and most effective oils, get them from a place that distills them the right way.
- Some oils are good for their scent, some are good for applying to your skin, and some are good for ingesting. Each oil has its own unique properties and benefits. To get the most out of your oils, make sure you understand it’s benefits and how to use it.
- When it comes to diffusing, more isn’t always better. Diffusing is a popular way to enjoy the benefits of an essential oil. There are machines that can help spread the oils through the air in a room. Often times people put way too much oil into their diffuser, thinking more oil means more benefit. Only a few drops are needed to be effective. Any more than that and you are likely just wasting money.
Recently, we partnered with CUREoils to bring you quality therapeutic grade essential oils and essential oil products, like the Space and Body Sprays. CUREoils has been blending and selling essential oil products for 7 years. CUREoils is owned by certified aromatherapist, Tammy Myers. CUREoils sources essential oils from all over the world for our blends. It is very important to get oils from growers that produce plant material grown in optimal environment and climate.
