What’s in My Bag This Week
On Tuesday March 20th, we welcomed the season of Spring with open arms. The onset of the new season brings warmer weather, extended days, radiant sunsets and a little bit of spring fever. Spring signifies new beginnings and the ability to embrace change. It also means sundresses, shorts and bikinis for us ladies! Now is the time to start getting it right and tight, by working out and eating clean. Most importantly, it’s the opportune time to take care of your skin to ensure that you have a beautiful and healthy glow when you slip into that new swim suit or sundress.
In honor of Spring and the commencement of Bikini Season, I’m sharing my secret product that’s in my bag this week:
Planet Beach’s Body Contour & Firming Oil
This product is like magic for the skin! It’s also listed as one of best sellers on planetbeachshop.com. Therefore, it’s safe to say that I’m not alone when I express my love for this product. It makes you feel like your immersing your skin in liquid gold as you tone, tighten and moisturize the skin. This product is infused with Camellia, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, Kukui and Lime Oil. This quintuple combination of oils will make your skin feel like silk. The contour oil can be used at home for ultimate moisturization, or in conjunction with one of the many heated skin hydrating sessions offered at Planet Beach. For added moisture at home, apply to the entire body, excluding the face, after bathing while skin is still damp. Then, gently towel dry. To maximize the results at the spa, apply to the entire body, excluding the face, just before your heated hydration session. Scoop up this amazing product at one of your local Planet Beach locations or visit http://www.planetbeachshop.com/ to purchase this amazing product. Please remember that you’ll receive free shipping on any online product purchases of $75 or more.

“The Work of How”
Last week we explored ‘The Church of Why’ and the need to stay focused on the essence of our brand, our business and our trajectory. This week brings us to ‘The Work of How,’ and for many of us, the difficult part of the equation; IMPLEMENTATION.
It’s easy to catch a vision, get motivated and find inspiration about a new idea. Telling friends and family about business plans when adrenaline is running high is simple too, but then the implementation stage kicks in and it takes a little more ‘hutzpah’ to see projects through to the finish line. We have all suffered from ‘starters’ syndrome,’ the overwhelming desire to start something new, and the lack of interest to see it through to the finish line.
I’m a runner, not a fast one, and some would say, not a very good one, but I am a finisher. You see, to finish distance runs, you have to get through the painful, boring miles in the middle of the race. You know; the miles where the crowd has thinned, the excitement has waned, and your body starts to feel the toll of the exertion. The middle miles are what determine your trajectory, and your ability to see the finish line.
In the beginning of the race, excitement will carry you, and in the end, adrenaline will make your tired legs move forward. The true grit lies in the middle miles, and what carries you through this space is determination and vision.
You don’t have to be a runner to understand the analogy between training and business. The work of how is exactly what it sounds like, work. Implementation and execution can be thankless tasks in which you are opened up to criticism, set-backs, pivots and the need to reimagine your goals. However, this is where the achievers are set apart from the dreamers.
‘Why’ and ‘How’ individuals make great business partners, but even greater is the person who can catch a vision AND commit to the strategy to see that vision through to fruition. You will know these individuals by their results, we call them entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs.
So, on those dogged, middle mile days of ‘How’, don’t forget to come back to ‘Why.’ On the gritty, lonely days of implementing a plan, building a new location, integrating new technology or even improving yourself, remember to implement your plan with vision. Long after the crowd has gone for donuts, and you’ve sweat through all your clothes, remind yourself, put your ‘Why’ on repeat and keep going.
I’ll see you at the finish line.

According to the BusinessDictionary.com, management is defined as the organization and coordination of the activities of a business in order to achieve defined objectives. Although this definition is accurate and to the point, the true essence of management is so much more extensive and intimate. Management is truly the art of developing personal relationships and improving overall efficiency by recognizing and cultivating the strengths and skills of your employees.
Building amazing relationships with your employees and vice-versa is so fundamental to the overall health and longevity of an organization. There must be mutual respect, open communication and trust among employees and their supervisors. These three components are what makes companies not just good, but great. Entrepreneur.com, found that “hundreds of studies of Millennials and shift populations show your employees, partners and customers want to have relationships with you, one another, your business and your brand. Lessons from the longest study on happiness — the Harvard Study of Adult Development — which tracked annually the lives of 724 men of varying economic statuses show that “Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period.”
Improving overall efficiency by recognizing and cultivating the strengths and skills of your employees is of equal importance to building strong relationships. The best managers understand that they are not the most knowledgeable person in the room on every subject matter, and draw upon the experience and expertise of their direct reports to support individual development and boost company performance. Entrepreneur.com stated that “great managers value individuality, allowing that individuality to prosper, multiply and add value to others. They’re about giving not getting and creating that mutual success. They’re about sharing and taking business to the next level so you can grow.”
Planet Beach & HOTWORX has excelled in the two areas mentioned above. The environment and culture of the organization has always been defined by a work hard and play hard mantra that has led to the development of the most valued relationships. I always refer to my colleagues and supervisors as work family because after 16 years of employment, that’s how it feels. In addition, I always feel like my strengths as a team member are valued and recognized and that I have the autonomy to get the job done while working alongside my work family to achieve a common goal.

It’s finally Thursday, and only two more days until the weekend festivities commence. While some weekends consist of relaxing on the sofa watching Netflix marathons, others are spent celebrating milestones with family and friends, sipping cocktails and dancing the night away. In order to exude the confidence necessary to make the weekend an unforgettable one, every girl wants to look and feel her absolute best. While a man may shave, splash on a little cologne and slip into his favorite pair of jeans, a girl’s steps for preparing for a glamorous weekend are a bit more intricate. With my special event approaching this weekend, I have the “The Planet Beach Runway Legs Collection” in my bag this week!

2. Runway Legs-Shine, Oil Moisturizer
This amazing oil moisturizer is packed with Vitamin E which is a powerful anti-oxidant. Use this product following Runway Glow to keep your skin hydrated and toned.
3. Runway Legs-Shimmer, Super-fine shimmering oil

Although it’s important to make a statement by looking your very best, confidence will make you stand out in the crowd. Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.” True beauty lies within, so regardless of what’s on the exterior, be bold and remember that you can!

“Why, How, What Now?”
This is the third article in a three-part series based on the Simon Sinek leadership classic, ‘Start With Why,’ and we circle back to review the most integral aspects leading your business.
Once you have caught a vision, and found excitement surrounding a new or innovative idea, it’s important to root your vision in a true and unquestionable ‘Why.’ Your reason for being a business owner, starting a new venture or taking a risk should be a weather tested motivation that consistently brings you back to true north in decision making. If your motivation is simply to make money, consider taking a role where you do not lead others in the process. However, if you are able to find true motivation and wrap passion around your commitment to business and your employees, then success and fulfillment will follow your ‘Why.’
Implementing your vision comes down to the gritty and unglamorous details of completing the task at hand and holding a standard of excellence. In business, as in life, there are visionaries to boot, but value is created by the successful implementation of your ‘Why’ or your vision. Remaining faithful to build core processes around your vision will ensure long-term operational achievement.
Finally, we are left to discuss the ‘What,’ after we have investigated the ‘Why’ of vision, the ‘How’ of implementation, all that’s left is the ‘What’ of application. With vision and implementation, your ‘What’ becomes a much easier load to bear. In fact, business becomes an enjoyable and fulfilling endeavor instead of a drain. Maybe all that’s needed to reinvigorate your ‘What’ or business is a shift in perspective, an update and review of your ‘Why’.
In all careers, businesses or projects, the path to success is never a straight line, it is filled with pivots, unexpected obstacles and challenges. However, the journey is often more insightful and impactful than the destination itself. Throughout your lifetime you might find that you are part of many different ‘What’s’ and their success is largely determined by the vision and implementation that you bring with you to the project.
Our industry is experiencing a renaissance of sorts, and it is important to catch a renewed long-term vision. With a positive climate in place, make sure that you are willing to amend your ‘What’ or business, to changing landscapes. Let go of the former ways and know that with a vision and a plan you can stretch into a newer, evolved version of the earlier industry. The evolution of this industry includes new technology, expert owners, high-end consultation and streamlined environments.
Nevertheless, I encourage you to take the initiative and not be lapped by the competition, find your ‘Why’ and see the vision through to completion; and of course for more read ‘Start With Why’ by Simon Sinek.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14th. It’s the one day each year where love birds across the globe express their love for one another by giving gifts of roses, chocolates and cards filled with words of adoration. For those single out there, it’s a day where you can celebrate your love for friends, family and self. Regardless of your relationship status, you can still partake in the Valentine’s Day festivities by taking time out to give a gift to self or by connecting with a friend that you haven’t seen or spoken to for some time.
I stumbled across the fun list of interesting facts about Valentine’s Day on list25.com, and I had to share them:
- In 1537, England’s King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 the holiday of St. Valentine’s Day.
- About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year.
- More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold.
- 189 million stems of roses are sold in the U.S. on this day.
- 220,000 is the average number of wedding proposals on Valentine’s Day each year.
- Many believe the X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn’t write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity.
- In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression “to wear your heart on your sleeve.”
Planet Beach will be giving the gift of rejuvenation this Valentine’s Day by offering a 15% discount on everything red and pink during the entire month of February. This includes one of my favorite services, red light therapy!! Originally discovered by NASA, red light therapy uses infrared light, which possesses strong wavelengths that penetrate deeply into the skin. Red light therapy may reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promotes healing, helps to eliminate sun damage, and improves overall appearance. An amazing complement to red light therapy is the cellular repair treatment, PB Renew. This product is a uniquely nourishing and restorative cream that may even the skin tone while transforming your skin’s elasticity and firmness. Using PB Renew in conjunction with the red-light therapy will give your skin a refreshed and beautiful look. Whether you have been struck by cupid’s arrow or not, visit a Planet Beach near you to take advantage of this amazing offer for you or a loved one. Happy Valentine’s Day from our Planet Beach family to yours. XOXO

What the Best Do Better
For almost six years now I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the finest leaders and brands in our industry and beyond.
Recently I was asked ‘What is it that sets a regular business owner apart from the pack, and turns them into industry leaders?’ It’s an insightful question, and one that left me rather reflective, regarding the diverse avenues through which leadership is expressed. Nevertheless, there are a few common themes that I have come to recognize throughout the years and through our valued partnerships the most successful brands in the business.
Operational Excellence: Possibly one of the greatest possible points of failure for any business comes from operations and the inability to codify excellence consistently. Simply put, making sure everyone is cooking with the same recipe every day, and doing it well. In the most basic sense, this requires two things: customer focused processes and regular review of those processes for alignment to the end goal of delighting customers. Whether its creating operational processes from scratch or following directives, this comes down to culture, training and consistency; and it’s the foundation for growth in your business.
Elevated Standards: One of the most visible and commonly understood elements of any successful brand and its ability to scale is repeatability. However, repeatability is as much about people as it is about environment and quality. Once operational standards are in place, consistent focus on quality and delivery are the key. Your customers should always know what to expect from you, and it should be a positive impression.
Legacy: The best in the business realize that they cannot do it all alone, nor can they achieve growth objectives by doing everything themselves. The measure of a leader lies in their ability to create other leaders, not followers. Thus, you should seek to create a circle of frontrunners holding the banner for growth, development and consistency. Empowered to meet needs, make decisions, solve problems and respond; this group knows the business trajectory and is able to implement strategy even in the absence of ‘the boss.’ The growth potential of a single driven individual is far less than that of an empowered team sharing a single vision.
As you can see, none of these elements are a mystical secret sauce that is only taught in business schools or impossible to achieve. These are simple practices, that when applied with consistency, tenacity and passion become that the best do better than the rest of the pack.

Offering an incentive when establishing a goal generates excitement, motivation and team camaraderie. Often employees are likely to increase their commitment and overall performance to ensure goal accomplishment when they are offered a reward that motivates them.
A study sponsored by the International Society for Performance Improvement determined that an incentive program can “boost performance by 25 to 44%.”
Planet Beach & HOTWORX Franchising fosters an environment of increased productivity through incentive based goals. This work hard, play hard mantra has been adopted by the franchisees of this multi-brand organization. The reward and recognition strategy is used to achieve peak performance and increase revenue at the unit level.
There are two trips per year organized for the franchisees and their top performers. They are encouraged to opt in by setting goals for their team that are both aggressive and attainable. During our last Convention, we promoted a “Get on the Ship” incentive program where participants were invited to opt in, determine their goals and then set sail from New Orleans to Cozumel on the Carnival Triumph.
You’ll be amazed by the increased enthusiasm and performance of your team when you provide them with an incentive. Whether it’s cash, a vacation or simply a paid day off, find out what motivates and reward based on goal accomplishment. I’ve often heard in business, that you are only as good as what you did yesterday. Meaning, every day should be a new start with the goal of accomplishing new things. Although this is true, always take the time to celebrate life’s successes. When a goal is met, no matter how large or small, take the time needed to recognize and celebrate.

I’m a bayou girl. I live in the heart of New Orleans, where the temperature soars above 100 degrees during the summer months. It’s so steamy and hot that you can literally fry an egg on the sidewalk. The longer you live in this humid, subtropical climate, the more accustomed you become to the warm summers and short, mild winters. Although we may have a few cold days during the winter, it’s quite an adjustment when the Crescent City is blasted with frigid temperatures and ice storms. To withstand the arctic air, I always dress warmly and bring a space heater everywhere I go. LOL! All joking aside, I do keep a space heater in my office and keep it running all day. On a serious note though, my skin gets extra dry when the temperature drops, so I always drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. In addition, I apply two of my favorite Planet Beach products, Infuse & Energize, to ensure my skin stays soft and moisturized.
Frigid Temperatures= Infuse & Energize in My Bag!
Infuse for the Body
This remarkable lotion uses its’ active ingredient, HydrafusePlus, containing 14 premium skincare ingredients, to help hydrate, nourish and detoxify the skin. Infuse also contains Melamax, which may increase your melanin production. Infuse works to provide the skin with ultimate moisturization for soft and healthy skin, as well as to provide the body with important anti-oxidant and anti-aging benefits.
Energize for the Face
This moisturizer contains Ester-C, an exclusive form of Vitamin C that may stimulate the formation of essential collagen and elastin, leaving your face beautiful and breathtaking. Additionally, Energize Ester-C can be effectively absorbed through the skin because of its unique skin penetrating properties.
Web MD shared these two tips to help you get the most out of your skin moisturizer:
- Use more than one moisturizer (if you need to). Nobody needs a cabinet full of moisturizing products. But a thin lotion for your face and a thick cream for your body may be just right for your all-over skin care.
- Apply your moisturizer while your skin is damp. Smooth on your favorite moisturizer a few minutes after a bath or shower. Then pat your skin dry.
Choosing the right moisturizer for your skin is a personal choice. Planet Beach offers an array of skin care products that will help you look beautiful and glowing all year long. Visit a Planet Beach near you or log on to http://www.planetbeachshop.com/ to purchase one of the amazing skin care products. As an added bonus, you will receive free shipping with a minimum purchase of $75.00.
