I’m beyond excited to introduce a new addition to the Planet Beach and HOTWORX Body skincare line, Soothe! Soothe is a miracle cream that soothes muscle and nerve pain in addition to reducing inflammation.
Who am I and why should you believe me? My name is Paige Stuart, and I am the Planet Beach Brand Manager at the Planet Beach and HOTWORX World Headquarters. I am also a Franchisee of my own Planet Beach Spray and Spa location. I began working for that location in 2005, working my way up the ladder to Spa Director to where I am today. Over the years I’ve become passionate about the Planet Beach mission to change the way the world rejuvenates. Though that does make me a little bias, I’m not someone who believes everything I hear. I’ll believe it when I see it!
I began using Planet Beach skincare in 2007, and like many of you who have tried it, I have never looked back! I’ve used every item that we offer beginning with the acne-control kit (resulting in blemish-free facial skin) to currently the amazing anti-aging line and everything in between for skincare and nutrition. Every single product has blown me away. I could go on and on forever about each one, but today I want to tell you about Soothe, and why I find it a “must have!”
Before beginning my freshman year in High School, I had to undergo a physical exam for cheerleading. I was told that I had Scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. At my follow up doctor’s appointment, the X-Ray of my back looked nothing like what I thought a spine should look like (a straight line), but instead the shape of an “S,” with a 54-degree curve in my upper spine, and a 10-degree curve in my lower. This severe of a case, could not be left untreated as it would only progress over time, impairing heart and lung function. It would have to be corrected surgically. So, shortly after I turned 14, I underwent a spinal fusion. During a spinal fusion, in their attempt to correct scoliosis curves, doctors use a steel rod to fuse multiple vertebrae together, irreversibly changing the spine’s biomechanics. Once fused, the vertebrae are no longer capable of flexion, extension, or rotation resulting in very stiff muscles. Very commonly spinal fusion patients have nerve damage, implant failure, joint degeneration and other complications which can all cause chronic pain. Over the years, I’ve tried over the counter pain creams and even prescription pain cream for the discomfort. NOTHING has worked as effectively and quickly as Soothe!
So, what is Soothe? Soothe is a capsaicin based anti-inflammatory gel, so it’s also great for exercise soreness, and even arthritis! Developed initially for working with fibromyalgia patients, Soothe is the perfect spot treatment for anything that leads to sore muscles or joints. Most creams used for aches and pains, just make the area warm, and can pull circulation and cause inflammation. They typically need to be applied over and over to the area throughout the day as the product just sits on the top layer of the skin, but not this one! As I think back to my days in other management positions, I marvel at how the Spa Director position has evolved. I’ve always believed and continue to see proof that the Spa Director’s job description is one of the most demanding positions out there. With this demanding position, we sometimes find ourselves in the predicament of needing more support, more guidance and more training in order to perform to set standards. Like any management position, a successful Spa Director develops with education and experience, that addresses both their life and business skills. As a Spa Director, you will need to explore many industry resources to fulfill the demands that the job puts on you.
A Spa Director’s job description comes in all shapes and sizes. A Spa Director is expected to be responsible for financial budgets and outcomes, for growing new business opportunities, developing the market, overseeing employee relations, customer service and planning.
Here at Planet Beach, a Spa Director is expected to manage the day-to-day operations. This would include maintaining payroll, develop accurate inventory control and monitoring, create ongoing in-house promotions and activities to stimulate sales, staff and members, maintain fresh, effective programs to consistently retain and grow our member base, ensure member needs are being met, implement ongoing skills training to ensure customer service standards are being upheld, develop and monitor spa consultant job descriptions and goals, perform staff evaluations, demonstrate an exceptional level of professionalism for the staff to emulate, create a motivating environment, hold regular monthly staff meetings, ensure equipment is maintained in good working order and implement a clearly established opening and closing procedure. For any Spa Director at Planet Beach, preparation is key!
We as Spa Director’s, make sure our spas are ready for our members. Their comfort and satisfaction are very important to the overall success of the spa. Having our members thanking us for making a difference in their lives, for me, is extremely rewarding. Seeing the happiness and comfort myself and my staff provided to them, makes all the hard work worth it. We have the BEST members! And our members are the true highlight of my day.
Despite the long hours worked, staffing issues and the overall daily stresses, I happen to believe, my job as a Spa Director at Planet Beach, is one of the most rewarding, exciting, mind expanding, life enhancing journey’s possible! Writer Annie Dillard said, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” For most of us, a large portion of our days is spent at work; in fact, the average person will spend 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime. To ensure that my office space at Planet Beach & HOTWORX Headquarters provides a sense of motivation and productivity, I have it decorated with inspirational quotes and messages throughout. The quote “Dream Big” is positioned directly in my line of sight and it serves as a constant reminder that if you establish goals and dream big, then anything is possible. In life and in business, setting goals creates a sense of purpose and direction for the future. With hard work, tenacity and strategic planning, any dream can become reality. Don’t ever underestimate your capabilities. Remember to dream big and shoot for the stars. If you are going to dream, it might as well be big right.
Below are 5 solid steps to accomplishing any goal:
1. Define the Goal: To go after it, you need to decide what you want. You must firmly believe that you can accomplish it and then fiercely pursue it. Whether you want to start a new business, retire early, take a vacation or simply loose five pounds, you must clearly define the goal. Secondly, the goal should be “SMART”. The SMART acronym first appeared in the November 1981 issue of Management Review. When it was first introduced, it was an acronym which stood for the following:
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A– Assignable
R- Realistic
T– Time based
In other words, when you set a goal you had to ensure it was specific, measurable, assignable, realistic and time based.
2. Establish a Deadline: I could probably write an entire blog on this subject alone. A goal is nothing without a deadline. Deadlines make things real! It helps bring clarity to a project and motivates us to get it done within a strict timeline. Tony Robbins stated, “setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”
3. Strategic Planning: Once the goal is defined and a definitive deadline has been established, then the strategic planning can begin. The strategy is the method used to accomplish the overall goal. To carry out the strategy, break the large goal into smaller tasks with mini deadlines. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be patient and take it one day and one accomplishment at a time.
4. Offer Incentives: Offering an incentive when establishing a goal generates excitement, motivation, and team camaraderie. Often employees are likely to increase their commitment and overall performance to ensure goal accomplishment when they are offered a reward that motivates them. Whether it’s cash, a vacation or simply a paid day off, find out what motivates and reward based on goal accomplishment.
5. Celebrate: I’ve often heard in business, that you are only as good as what you did yesterday. Meaning, every day should be a new start with the goal of accomplishing new things. Although this is true, always take the time to celebrate life’s successes. When a goal is accomplished, no matter how large or small, take the time needed to recognize and celebrate.

In less than one week, the annual Planet Beach & HOTWORX Convention will commence at Harrah’s Hotel in Lake Tahoe. This beautiful lake is nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains and straddles the state line between California and Nevada. This perfect venue gives way to picturesque views of verdant mountains in the distance aside a glistening lake that expands in every direction.
This year’s Convention is filled with training events, expert panel discussions, guest speaker appearances and evening socials. Although the agenda is filled with an array of activities, there is one highly anticipated event that has grown in popularity over the past several years. The annual outdoor workout is one of the most exciting and transcendent experiences hosted during the four-day event. This annual tradition began in 2016 atop the roof of the LINQ Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, we are excited to bring this event to Lakeside Beach, which overlooks Lake Tahoe.
Led by a team of HOTWORX Virtual Instructors, participants are guided through a series of isometric postures that emulates the isometric workouts conducted virtually within the HOTWORX Infrared Sauna.
The patent-pending HOTWORX unit was designed as a 63-square foot, modular infrared sauna to allow for a 15 minute HIIT or a 30-minute isometric, small group, hot exercise session. The screen inside the unit is equipped with our proprietary software and delivers a variety of virtually instructed workout videos.
This year, we have introduced the first Virtual Instructor Competition which will take place during the Convention and will involve a series of judging interviews, a Virtual Instructor Q&A, and of course, the live outdoor workout at Lakeside Beach. There will be 5 Virtual Instructors selected on the final day of the Convention, so they must convince the audience that they have what it takes to deliver exceptional workouts to thousands of HOTWORX Studio members every day, 24 hours a day across the world for the next year.
This year, we will see which aspiring Virtual Instructors make their participants earn the burn while they take in the beautiful views and indulge in the scents of fresh pine and crisp mountain air. They say that time is valuable. As the VP of Special Events & Productivity of Planet Beach & HOTWORX Franchising, I make it my mission to ensure that every moment spent on the job is as efficient and productive as possible. I have the liberty of organizing the executive schedule for the CEO and his direct reports. Understanding that time is of the essence, I strive to establish a productive meeting schedule that includes recurring daily, weekly or singular meetings when necessary. The weekly productivity schedule is published the Friday prior to the following work week. This preview allows the executives to review and make the necessary meeting additions or revisions before the work week concludes. That way, everyone knows the game plan come Monday!
Regardless of the proactive measures taken to set and maintain a set schedule, we are always faced with those unforeseen interruptions. Although I’m married to my calendar and use it as my daily compass, there are times when I have impromptu discussions with colleagues or have an immediate issue at hand that needs to be dealt with. Learn to identify and embrace these moments. These unscheduled interruptions are inevitable, so allow some buffer in your daily schedule to ensure that you walk away with a sense of accomplishment at the end of the work day regardless of what comes your way. If you find that you are falling behind, get an early start by arriving to work 30 minutes early so that you can knock out your to-dos with no interruptions. If you have a serious pending deadline that needs your complete focus, you can always move to a quiet area in the office with minimal distractions so that you can get the job done. That works wonders for me!
Most importantly, use your time wisely by knowing your goals and prioritizing accordingly. Give your most pertinent projects your undivided attention and prioritize them based on your assigned or self-imposed deadline. If your project goals and where they fall on the priority list are not crystal clear, there will be no way to manage your time effectively.
Remember to run the day or the day will run you. Manage your time effectively by planning in advance, embrace interruptions, avoid distractions when necessary, focus on your goals and prioritize accordingly!

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays! 242 years ago, our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, thus declaring our freedom from Great Britain and securing the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans. Due to this monumental movement in democracy, we can proudly call ourselves the home of the brave and the land of the free. We celebrate our independence by surrounding ourselves with family and friends, indulging in our all-American favorite foods and watching the mystical display of fireworks illuminate the sky.
When writing this blog, I found these fun facts about this prominent day in American history, and I couldn’t resist sharing:
- Around 150 million hot dogs are consumed on Fourth of July
- Back in 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed, 2.5 million new people lived in the U.S. Now 242 years later, an approximate 311 million people live.
- The now American-celebrated song, Yankee Doodle, was originally written by officers of the British army to make fun of backwoods Americans.
- Three United States presidents died on the Fourth of July: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe.
- In one year, $600 million is spent on fireworks alone in the U.S.
As the old saying goes, you learn something new every day! Hmm, did I read that correctly? 150 million hot dogs consumed on the Fourth of July alone??? Well then Americans, as you tune in to watch Nathan’s famous hot dog eating contest and prepare for your festivities filled with fireworks and fun, remember to hold on to your patriotism on this great day by showing your appreciation for those serving to protect your freedom. In the words of Claudia Pemberton, “America without her soldiers would be like God without his angels.”

Red light therapy (RLT) is a commonly known technique that uses red low-level wavelengths of light to treat skin issues, such as wrinkles, scars, and persistent wounds, among other conditions. It’s hard to believe that scientists used RLT to help grow plants in space in the early 1990s. The scientists found that the intense light from red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) helped promote growth and photosynthesis of plant cells.
