Planet Beach, the first and only fully automated spa, is proud to announce its support of the “Skin Cancer Protection Ban” proposed legislation in Louisiana. This bill would no longer allow minors under the age of 18 to use UV tanning services, regardless of parental consent. Currently, the proposed legislation is working its way through the Louisiana State Senate.

“Planet Beach has chosen to support the pending legislation for several reasons,” said Stephen Smith, CEO and Founder of Planet Beach. “Our company’s focus is on automated spa services and has evolved away from our past tanning roots. Most importantly, we support this legislation because of our concern for all of our customers’ skin, health, and overall wellness.”

The Planet Beach core member has an average age of 30, is a professional, educated female that utilizes services for beauty, skincare, relaxation, and wellness.

“By banning minors from UV services, Planet Beach continues to set the bar as the leader in the automated spa industry, even with roots in UV therapy.” said Smith. “Planet Beach predicted the decline in the popularity of UV tanning and saw the health concerns that began to arise. To counter this, the company repositioned the brand in 2005 to include automated spa services and grew with customers’ demands.”

Planet Beach is the largest franchise in the industry to stand behind this type of legislation and will continue to focus on automated spa services and the health and wellness of our members, rather than its past tanning salon image. The company continues to build brand awareness to the fact that Planet Beach is no longer a tanning salon, but actually a fully automated spa.

Effective immediately, current members under the age of 18 will no longer be allowed to use UV services in Louisiana. They will be upgraded to a spa membership at no additional expense.

“We decided to lock in the rate for the membership for those clients that are affected by this policy change,” said Smith. “Once a member turns 18, they have the option of reactivate their UV membership, if they so choose.”

Its been about a month since we crowned Paige Duke as our 2014 Cover Model of the Year. It was a close competition, our Top 5 models were all SO amazing. The 2014 Planet Beach Cover Models are starting off this year with a bang!

Now that their new campaigns have been shot, its time to get them out in the field and representing Planet Beach! First stop, Melissa and Shani will get a head start at a commercial shoot for Planet Beach at our new Mandeville location on Saturday, February 15th.

The following Monday, all five models will be arriving at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino for some “Southern Hospitality”. This will be the first time this year that the models will be able to network with our franchisees. From meet and greets, to video segments and rehearsals, our models are in for a fun-filled and busy week. We will end the conference by announcing the 2014 Cover Model of the Year.

This year, franchisees from around the world will meet with our Regional Developers on Sunday for a Conference and Super Class in Tulsa, Mississippi at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino. The rest of the week will include a cocktail meet and greet, guest speakers, and general assembly sessions on topics such as Marketing, Online Reputation Management, and Lead Generation!
