We officially said goodbye to the long, cold days of winter on March 20^th, this year’s spring equinox. The equinox is the moment in time when the Sun stands directly above the equator and day and night are of approximately equal length. For the northern hemisphere, the spring equinox is the moment when winter ends and spring begins. It brings the promise of longer days, shorter nights and warmer weather.  Spring is officially in the air and very welcomed after this year’s harsh, teeth-chattering winter. In the northern hemisphere, the equinox is traditionally revered as a time of rebirth with many different cultures celebrating spring holidays and festivals throughout the month.

As we transition into the season of spring, remember to spend some extra time outdoors soaking up the sun.  According to WebMD, moderate exposure to the sun’s UV rays will assist the body with the production of Vitamin D, which is important for your bones, blood cells, and immune system. It also helps you take in and use certain minerals, like calcium and phosphorus. In addition, sunlight helps boost a chemical in your brain called serotonin, and that can give you more energy and help keep you calm, positive, and focused.
