Negative people seem to love bringing others down. At first you listen, offering a compassionate ear and hope that their negativity is just a passing phase. After all, everyone has a bad day now and again, right? But, if you’re dealing with a habitually pessimistic person, you’re at risk of being drained emotionally yourself. Negativity can be contagious, and if you don’t take action to protect your mindset, you may find your mood infected with hostility.
Disarm their negativity and shield yourself from hostility by using these five simple strategies.
1. Don’t buy into their negativity.
Don’t allow yourself to become infected with toxic negativity. Do not engage in a difficult person’s habitual skepticism. Whatever you do, don’t stoop to their level. Maintain your emotional distance. This doesn’t mean ignoring them, nor should you try to “bright-side” everything. Trying to convince someone to stop being negative may only challenge them to amp up their hostility. A difficult person is probably locked into a negative mindset that is part of the fabric of his or her personality. Negative people often have a demanding nature and put pressure on those close to them. They want others to love and respect them, yet they are incapable of offering emotional support to others. Limit your expectations when dealing with them. A negative person isn’t a good choice to turn to when you’re feeling down. When you do engage with them, use noncommittal language. Acknowledge their comments without endorsing what they are saying. Agree with them as far as you can, then rephrase their complaints using less loaded language. You can’t change their personality, but you might neutralize their toxic outlook.
2. You are not their problem solver.
It is not your job to make an unhappy person happy. If you set out to change a person overnight, you will fall short and may end up feeling disgruntled yourself. The only person whose happiness you can control is your own. You can (and should) remain positive when dealing with negative people, but don’t fool yourself into thinking you can cheer them up or change their mindset.
3. Hold your tongue.
When dealing with a negative person it’s tempting to let yourself slide into anger or frustration, but save yourself the heartache. Responding angrily only feeds their negativity. Hold your tongue and listen. Eventually, when they realize you won’t give them the reaction they seek, they will take their angry rants elsewhere. Tempering your emotional responses can be difficult, but it is key to maintaining inner peace.
4. Be the light.
Strive to personify positivity. Wear your enthusiasm like an armor against a negative person’s onslaught of hostility. Affirm your positivity by doing nice things for a negative person on occasion. These don’t have to be huge. Compliment them for something they genuinely did well. Remind them of a moment when they were happy and things were going well for them. Small gestures will chip away at their negativity. They might eventually find joy, but if they don’t, so be it. Doing nice things for others will make you feel good about yourself and affirm your positive mindset. You can have a successful relationship with a negative person as long as your expectations are based in reality. Don’t expect massive changes overnight. The only person you have control over is you, so focus on your happiness. Rise above and remain positive.

- Spray with a quick, continuous, side-to-side motion across areas to be tanned
- Spray lightly and blend around feet, ankles, knees and elbows
- Let the fake tan spray dry before dressing
- Allow 4-8 hours before getting wet
- To ensure an even tan, blend with an applicator mitt or hand
- Wash hands immediately after use

- Whether you get sprayed in a booth or by a technician, you’ll have to listen to the salon staffer on the appropriate way to stand and rotate to get the ideal fake tan.

In this segment, the day in the life of a Planet Beach member, you will receive insight from one of our loyal members, Skylar Hannan.

Skylar has been a dedicated Planet Beach member for over one year and has recently decided to join the team as a Spa Consultant. Her hobbies include spending time with friends, shopping, cheering with LA Spirit and traveling to any tropical destination.
Q&A:
1. What attracted you to the Planet Beach Brand? Planet Beach is a one stop for all your wellness and beauty needs. Not only do I like to maintain my overall health due to cheerleading, but I love to have the “right off the beach” glow. Planet Beach gives me the amazing results I’m looking for, and I can be a golden glowing goddess year-round. Lol
2. How long have you been a member of Planet Beach? I have been a loyal, dedicated member of Planet Beach for over a year.
3. How often do you visit Planet Beach? I visit Planet Beach EVERYDAY!!!
4. What are your favorite Products & Services and why? Now, this is a tricky question. All of the products and services are AMAZING! But if I had to choose… My favorite services and products are the Mystic Spray tan and UV services. I spray once a week for my cheerleading competitions. The great benefits of the Mystic Spray tan are no streaks, no orange, it’s a natural glow, customizable to fit every member’s skin tone, and the best part is that it lasts 5-7 days. To maintain my color, I use the platinum and the high-pressure UV beds. To achieve my maximum color, my favorite UV lotion is the Pink Party Bronzer. Not only does it give me a beautiful golden color, it leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and rejuvenated.
5. What results have you seen from your services? With the added benefits of UV lotions, and the ingredients such as DHA, Coconut Sugar, Caffeine and Allantoin, my skin is much darker and richer in color. It also has helped moisturize, tighten and tone my skin.
6. How has Planet Beach improved your life? It has helped me become more confident in my own skin. I always feel great about my body when I leave here.

We all want to achieve that healthy glow. The problem most of us have is knowing exactly how and where to start. Whether you prefer UV-Therapy, Sunless Spray Tans, or a cocktail of both, Planet Beach has got you covered! In this 3-part series, I will walk you through the best practices of all 3 options!
Here we are. The 3rd and final blog of the glow series, and my favorite of all the glow options: The Glow Cocktail. We’ve talked about the dos and don’ts of both UV and Sunless Spray tanning, so now you’re a pro in both arenas, but how do you choose whether to get in the beds or get sprayed? I’ve got news for you. You don’t have to! The Glow Cocktail is known as a combination of a UV session followed immediately by a sunless session, and it will actually result in the best color! Why? The tanning bed uses UV rays to trigger melanin production, while opening up your pores and allowing the sunless spray solution to penetrate your skin. This produces an even darker, deeper and longer-lasting tan!
Who says you need to stop there? Some of the best cocktails are made with more than just 2 ingredients, right? We have other services to assist you in looking and feeling your best while keeping that golden glow! Like we discussed in the first blog of the series: One being Hydro-Derma Fusion. This is a 20-minute, skin conditioning system that can be paired with UV, Sunless sprays, or other spa services to enhance results. It infuses your skin with revitalizing moisture aromatherapy. Infrared heat and steam ensure longer-lasting results! Another service you shouldn’t go without is Red light therapy. Since the red-light therapy brings blood to the surface of your skin it produces a better tan through increased oxidation of melanin not to mention the increased production of collegian and elastin for more even, youthful skin tone!
Your “cocktail” is not complete without the appropriate product pairings! Don’t forget to exfoliate prior to coming in with one of Planet Beach’s amazing exfoliators like Buff or Scrub. Bring in your indoor UV lotion to apply prior to jumping in that bed or booth and use your sunless primer or booster before your spray to pH balance your skin & extend that sunless bronzer, and lastly of course put on your PB Renew to enhance those red-light therapy results by 10x! Keeping your skin moisturized afterwards is just as important, so make sure you’re using Planet Beach’s Infuse moisturizer daily.
